Best gerbil home The best gerbil home that we've found is a fish aquarium. When we first got our gerbils we looked at all the fancy gerbil cages; they looked like so much fun. But we kept reading about how gerbils love to chew, including plastic. All the fancy gerbil cages were mostly plastic and we were concerned that they could chew their way out. And then I thought, you know what, the gerbils in the store are housed in aquariums. Not one was in a gerbile cage. So we decided on a glass fish aquarium. Some pros to the fish aquarium, besides not being plastic, are: The gerbils can dig and burrow until their heart's content, and their bedding stays contained inside their home. There are screened lids available that easily fit over top the aquarium making everything easy to reach and their home very easy to clean, and also allows for air circulation. It's easy to set their toys, wheels, and food dish in and out of. So from this family, we give a big two thumbs up on glass fish aquariums as gerbil homes.
