Encouraging artistic creativity in kids
By Cheryl Paton
I love encouraging creativity in kids, especially art. I had read that you can take one of the pieces of a child's art and frame it, and that then it becomes so much more. It not only adds a new dimension to it, it adds value to it. Another way to encourage creativity, and add value to art, is to make it on something that is re-usable, that others will readily see, such as aprons, t-shirts, canvas bags, etc. When kids get to create things that others see and appreciate, they take more ownership in their creations, and start to value artistic creativity. Kids don't need to create a design from start to finish. Although, some are so inclined; others like a starting place, and then expanding on that idea. For instance, kids can start with a pumpkin outline, and then add a face to it, and/or decide where that pumpkin is, and add to the scene. If you have kids, and haven't already done this, then I invite you to join in on a creative project with your child(ren), and then frame one or two; or make art on a re-usable product. It's fun and creative, and reinforces the value of art and them. The possibilities are endless. What will you do to encourage art and creativity in kids?

Thank you for sharing this useful information, Cheryl. We constantly supply the grand children with crayons, pencils, paints and paper, when they come to visit. Spending time with them also lessens the time they waste on their hand-held electronic games.Double benefit!! Great external links. Best wishes. Frederick
