Make your own picture book with your child One of the most fun ways that I taught my daughter to read was by creating story books using her own words. I would show her a picture or photo and ask her to tell me something about it. I glued the picture to an index card and wrote what she said under it. When she was very young, the words were just one or two at a time. As she got older, what she said grew into sentences. She loved reading her books.
