Using affirmations

Affirmations are generally known as positive statements one makes about themselves or another. Actually, anything that one declares is an affirmation. It is something that one is affirming. But it's best for everybody to spend more time affirming the good stuff, that which we want more of.

So, I'll start off by affirming that you are beautiful. You are beautiful in every way. There is a spark in you that can't be denied, and I love you.

And then I can turn it around and affirm it about me, which then also becomes an affirmation for you. I am beautiful. I am beautiful in every way. There is a spark in me that can't be denied. I love who I am.

Sometimes it feels better to make positive affirmations about others too. Especially when it might be hard to believe them about yourself. You can say them as if saying them to another, and then rephrase them to be about yourself.

Another method is to rephrase the old beliefs.

You'll need a sheet of paper for this. First, write down the affirmation you're wanting to be true about yourself.

So go ahead and write that down, keeping it positive and in present tense. For instance, it can be something like, I am a terrific _________. What do you really want to be terrific at? Write that down.

And then write the first unbelief or contradictory thought that comes up.

Now write the same affirmation again. And then again, the first unbelief or contradictory thought that comes up.

Do this two step process for a total of ten times; more if more unbeliefs or contradictory thoughts come up.

Once that is done, take each unbelief or contradictory thought statement and rephrase it.

For instance, for the affirmation, I am a terrific singer, and the first unbelief thought was, Who, you? Rephrase it to, Yes, I, (your name), am a great singer.

The second time might go, I am a terrific singer. The next unbelief thought was, You screeched when you sang at the birthday party. Rephrase it to, I, (your name), now know how to exercise my voice now and can sing very well.

Notice that I said very well and not, without screeching. When you make a positive affirmation, it is better to make the whole statement positive with your desires without mentioning withouts or nots.

Once you've got your new list made, then what. Well just like the ways the old ideas became beliefs, you get to do the same thing with the new ideas. You get to repeat them. And you can add some variety. You can sing them, re-write them, record them and listen to them, recite them, whatever feels right for you to do.

Some people like variety. Short rhymes can work well. Singing the affirmations while you dance or in the shower can work well. Pick what feels good to you, and then do it at least twice daily; morning and night or throughout the day.

At some point in time, you'll begin to feel a shift in your beliefs. And then do it some more. Studies say that a change that is continued for at least 21 days is easier to keep than one practiced for a week.

Love and blessings to you. I really do love you.
